Healthy Treat Options

The Daniel Plan has several options for treats (the Frozen Banana Pops and Dark Chocolate Avocado Mousse Cups are my favorite), but if you want some more options here are some fairly healthy treat recipes that I’ve come across over the past couple of years.

Peppermint Chocolate Smoothie

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 large banana
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract
  • pinch of sea salt

Combine all ingredients and puree in a blender. Serves 1

Chocolate Peanut Butter Pudding

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Puree all ingredients in a food processor or blender. Serves 4.

Chia Seed Pudding

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 4 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup sweetener (i.e. maple syrup, honey, agave nectar – this is optional)
  • For chocolate banana:
    • 1 sliced banana
    • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For spiced blueberry:
    • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
    • 1/2 tsp cardamom
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix all ingredients in a jar and shake thoroughly. Refrigerate 4-8 hours, shaking periodically to ensure seeds are evenly distributed. Serves 1.

Fruit Sorbet

  • Roughly 1 1/2 cups fruit of your choice. Some good options are:
    • Pineapple and mango
    • Strawberry
    • Blueberry blackberry
    • Cantaloupe mint
    • Watermelon lime (use watermelon chunks and lime juice instead of lemon)
    • Raspberry peach
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup sweetener of your choice (i.e. maple syrup, honey, agave nectar – this is optional)

Freeze fruit (but not banana). Puree frozen fruit, banana, lemon juice, and sweetener in a food processor. Put mixture in the freezer in a covered container. Freeze until firm. Serves 2.
